Contest: Win Tickets to Almost, Maine

Update: The contest is now closed. Congratulations Brett!

I've been a fan of Transport Group since I saw the company's site-specific revival of The Boys in the Band. Now the company is producing the first New York revival of Almost, Maine, about love in a fictional town. Playwright John Cariani also stars in this production, now playing at The Gym at Judson.

In order to win a pair of tickets, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me a fictional town (it can be from a play, a movie, a book, etc.) that you'd like to visit. You can also tweet about the contest or retweet one of my tweets about it (if you enter this way, you must be following on Twitter to win). You can enter once each way for a total of two entries. A winner will be chosen at random from all the entries on Saturday, February 1, at noon. Please include your e-mail address or Twitter handle in the comments so I have a way to contact you if you win. Good luck!

Contest: Win Tickets to Broadcast of Romeo and Juliet

Update: The contest is now closed. Congratulations @ladystardust25!

I sometimes feel bad that you have to live in or near New York to enter my contests, but now I have an opportunity for those of you who live far away. (Those who live close can enter as well.) If you missed the Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad (and even if you saw it), you will have the chance to see it in movie theaters from February 13-19. It is part of Broadway HD, which makes Broadway available to everyone. For movie times and tickets, visit BroadwayHD.com.

Since the movie will be premiering just before Valentine's Day, in order to win a pair of tickets to see Romeo and Juliet on the big screen, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me a theatrical character you'd like to take on a Valentine's Day date. You can also tweet about the contest or retweet one of my tweets about it (if you enter this way, you must be following on Twitter to win). You can enter once each way for a total of two entries. A winner will be chosen at random from all the entries on Friday, January 31, at 5 p.m. Please include your e-mail address or Twitter handle in the comments so I have a way to contact you if you win. Good luck!

Contest: Win Tickets To Murder For Two

Update: The contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered. The winner was picked at random. Congratulations Clint!

This winter has been pretty brutal, so why not cheer yourself up with a musical comedy? I'm giving away a pair of tickets to see Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair's Murder for Two at New World Stages. I saw this delightful murder mystery at Second Stage Uptown this summer. The current cast is Brett Ryback and one of the show's writers, Joe Kinosian, playing all of the suspects.

In order to win, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite cold-weather or winter song from a musical. You can also tweet about the contest or retweet one of my tweets about it (if you enter this way, you must be following on Twitter to win). The show is also on Twitter @MurderFor2. You can enter once each way for a total of two entries. A winner will be chosen at random from all the entries on Wednesday, January 29, at noon. Please include your e-mail address or Twitter handle in the comments so I have a way to contact you if you win. Good luck!

Lyrics and Lyricists: Going Hollywood: MGM Musicals

When my friend and I took our seats at Lyrics & Lyricists, a series at 92Y celebrating the American Songbook, the women next to us remarked that we were probably the youngest people there. But I, like many of the audience, grew up watching MGM movies like The Wizard of Oz, Singin' In The Rain, and An American in Paris.

The revue featured a mix of the most popular and lesser-known songs of the MGM catalogue, performed by the talented cast of Cameron Adams, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Joshua Henry, Rob McClure, Jeremy Jordan, and Rachel York. At other Lyrics and Lyricists programs I've been to, the lyricists are actually there discussing the songs, but in this show, director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall spoke in between numbers to give context. It wasn't so much about the lyrics as about the history of MGM musicals, but it was very informative, ranging from basic facts to more insider information, so that no matter their age or prior knowledge, everyone was bound to learn something.

There are two remaining performances on Monday, January 13 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
